It’s strange how we often take the best, unbiased advice with a pinch of salt.

That’s because we don’t like to hear what we don’t want to hear.

The Weight Gain Phase

One day, out of the blue, my husband teased me about a bit of tummy peeping out of the dress.

I’d never noticed it until then and to be honest, I didn’t think that there was any tummy even then.

All the suggestions that I was getting were just impossible to imply. A friend suggested that I replace my desk with a walking desk.

But hey, at that time I would have agreed to spend a thousand dollars if someone could help me shed weight without exercising.

The package was delivered three days later.

There were two different sachets in it.

The first one was the Flat Tummy Activate and the second one was the Flat Tummy Cleanse.

You need to use the Activate Tea in the morning before or during breakfast. And you just need to add one teaspoon of the tea to a cup of hot water and let it steep for a while before using.

The second sachet or the tummy cleanse is to be used at night thrice a week on alternate days in the first week and twice a week from week 2-4.

It’s pretty easy to use. But that’s the best thing about it.

My Flat Tummy Tea Review

First things first, flat tummy tea tastes nothing like tea.

I mean, I have tasted green tea, white tea, oolong tea, flavored teas, Poleo, damania tea as well as many other Hierba Buena teas from back home.

This is unlike anything that I have ever tasted.

More importantly, it’s not a good taste.

It has a very pungent herbal odor with a hint of peppermint. But it isn’t pleasant like peppermint either. There’s a mild bitter aftertaste. I don’t know how to best describe it.

I know that taste is subjective. But I can bet on it that you are not going to gulp it down with a smile.

Nevertheless, I managed to stick to the ordeal.

Week 1: The first day wasn’t the best one. After drinking the activate tea before breakfast, I started to feel the urge to poop. But I wasn’t pooping.

It was just like an incessant sensation that didn’t cease the whole day. I did notice that I was peeing more than normal though.

But after I drank the tummy cleanse at night, all hell broke loose. I visited the restroom 6 times all night. And felt drained by morning.

Javier asked me to stop using the tea. But I felt that it was just the body getting used to the new product, which does take time.

By day four, the body had apparently got adjusted to the teas. And the constant urge to poop had disappeared. But the peeing continued. I was peeing like I was diabetic.

Start of the week: 148 lbs.

End of the week: 147 lbs.

Week 2: The peeing continued and I noticed that the tummy looked a little less bloated.

But there was no inch loss or significant difference in the weight.

And the hunger pangs were killing me. I wanted to just hog on anything that I could get my hands on.

On day three, I had a big mac. I hadn’t had a big mac in four years. Nothing against a humble beef burger. But this was just not me.

Instead, by day four of the second week, the diarrhea returned. And this time, it stuck for two days.

I told the guy to take a hike.

And I finally decided that I had to stop using the Flat Tummy Teas.

Start of the week: 145 lbs.

End of the week: 146 lbs.

Week 4:

End of the week: 149 lbs. Yes. I regained all the weight that I’d lost after three miserable weeks.

What’s wrong with the Flat Tummy Teas

After using the teas for three weeks of the stipulated four-week time, here’s what I feel is wrong with the Flat Tummy Tea.

It’s a laxative herbal tea: Flat Tummy Tea is a laxative tea. It will take you to poop hell more times than one. And if that’s your idea of weight loss, then I think even psyllium husk will help you achieve it. For a busy working woman like me, it’s been a torrid experience. Imagine the constant urge to poop while you in the midst of a business presentation.

It’s overpriced: $50 for four weeks of tea is not cheap by a long shot. And to add insult to injury, it does nothing to help you lose weight.

Suspicious testimonials: Log on to their website and all you see is positive testimonials. Forget negative testimonials there are not even neutral ones. How can there not be even one disgruntled customer? How did I not see this earlier?

Does nothing to curb hunger: When you suddenly lose a lot of water from your body, your body starts to crave for food. And there’s no ingredient in the tea that helps curb the hunger pangs. By week two, you will have pangs so intense, that there’s every possibility that you might make poor dietary choices like I did.

The ingredient list: The ingredients in both the teas are as follows:

Activate Tea – Peppermint (leaf), Lemon Balm (leaf), Liquorice (root), Dandelion (leaf and root), Cleavers (leaf), Fennel (seed), Green Tea (leaf), Caraway (seed), Cardamom (pods).

Cleanse Tea – Senna (leaf), Peppermint (leaf), Cassia Chamaecrista (pods), Liquorice (root), Caraway (seed), Dandelion (root), Rhubarb (root).

Apart from Green Tea, none of those ingredients have any weight loss benefits in small doses. They don’t have any proven detox properties either.

Senna is a proven laxative used to treat constipation and to empty the bowel before surgery. That explains the laxative effect that the tea has.

Dandelion root is a diuretic that helps shed water retained in the body. That explains the excessive urination.

Claims to detoxify your body: That’s a farce! Reminds me of those fake colon cleanse videos that were doing the rounds of the internet a few years ago.

To sum it up

For $50, all that you get is a diuretic, laxative green tea. It does reduce the bloat around the tummy a little. But that’s about it.

You will not lose weight. Period. And you will be spending more time in the bathroom than ever before.

Save yourself the money and the trouble.

There are cheaper ways to get a fat loss tea as I later discovered.

Three weeks later, I was poorer by $50, back to my original weight, a little disappointed, but a lot wiser than I was.

I had realized two things:

  • If I had to lose weight, I had to exercise. There’s no two ways around it.

  • Monday: Chest, Shoulders and Triceps

  • Tuesday: Quads and Glutes

  • Wednesday: Ab workouts with HIIT (Optional)

  • Thursday: Back and Biceps

  • Friday: Hams and Calves

  • Saturday: 10 minute Intense HIIT and Abs

  • Sunday: Rest

To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to pull that off. Never lifted weights my whole life.

I couldn’t stop smiling.

Start of the week: 144 lbs.

End of the week: 141 lbs.

Week 3:

It was all going as planned. All I had in mind when I was in office was to reach home and start the Bikini Body Workout.

Then the cravings began. And as hard as I tried, I couldn’t control myself.

I swayed on one day. Then on another day. And then again.
